Poncebos is a great starting point for treks in los Picos.
Poncebos is a great starting point for treks in los Picos. The funicular train up to Bulnes is here as is the path that goes up to Bulnes. You can also start the Cares gorge walk here. This is one of the most beautiful walks in Spain and accessible to all ages.

The roads are packed with cars, so it's nice to wake up and already be near the trails. It is very comfortable with great rooms and beds. Bathrooms are shared, but there are plenty and they are very clean and spacious. Breakfast is provided and the restaurant serves lunches, tapas and dinner as well. There are buses scheduled from Arenas de Cabrales to Poncebos; the bus stop is a 5-10 min walk from the hostel depending on how much luggage you are carrying.KristenSlovenia

We had room with own bath/shower and the water was super hot and pressure great. Food in the evening, although basic, was plentiful and tasty. Breakfast was more than adequate before setting out on one of the numerous walks which start/end in Poncebos. For a Hostel, this makes a great stay and good value for money.

This place is perfect for nature lovers-my room featured a small balcony with mountain views and I fell asleep and woke to the sound of the river Cares. Delicious food and rate includes breakfast of coffee, local pastries, pan con tomate and the best orange juice. After a day of hiking, enjoy their amazing Asturian stewed beans and Rioja wines. Property is dated but just fine. Owner was very friendly and breakfast was good (freshly baked croissants with pressed orange juice). Free parking on road in front of hotel. For anyone with mobility issues, there are no rooms available at ground level, up a flight of stairs to reception and then up again to rooms.
