Generator Hostel Barcelona introduces a new hotel concept, which allows a budget stay in one of the best areas in Barcelona.
If you’re anything like me, the word hostel reminds you of triple bunk beds (I’ve reluctantly been stuck sleeping on the top one in my earlier years) and a loud, party-goer atmosphere. I guess those were the hostels of my past, because our recent experience with Generator Hostels in Barcelona was anything but chaotic.
A new hostel/hotel concept located in the quirky Gracia neighborhood, Generator is a colorful and welcoming space that offers something for everyone. We were staying in one of their luxury doubles (yes, some hostels even have luxury suites!), and had no idea what to expect from the experience. Our biggest concern was that noise from the hostel would reach our private room. Turns out, we need not have worried a bit, all was quiet and peaceful up on the 7th floor.
We arrived early for check-in and were quickly shown to a large luggage storage room, which was greatly appreciated. Starving, we tried the nearby La Pepita tapas bar while our room was prepared. When we got back, our room was ready and we headed up to the 7th floor by a special elevator that serves only the top floors of the building, home to the hotel rooms.
Although the reception area seemed to always be filled with big school groups and backpackers, we were always taken care of quickly, and once we arrived to our 7th floor suite, it felt as if we were alone in the building.
Our room was small, but very efficient, and included an enormous terrace that would’ve been perfect for reading or relaxing if we hadn’t had bad weather. Generator provided a generous bag full of bathroom amenities, and the rainfall shower (with great water pressure) was a nice touch for feeling truly rested and ready to go each morning.
The only reason we even realized we were staying in a hostel was that the downstairs lobby was constantly full, and there were often cheerful groups laughing and drinking at the hostel’s bar.
We would definitely recommend Generator Hostels for anyone looking for a comfortable budget hotel in Barcelona in a fantastic neighborhood.
Have you ever stayed in a luxury hostel?
