5 Stunning Places to Watch the Sunset in Malaga You Won’t Want to Miss

Is there anything better than spending an unforgettable day in a gorgeous seaside city? The only thing that could take it to the next level would be to cap off your day by watching the sunset, and luckily there are plenty of excellent places to watch the sunset in Malaga. Here are a few local favorites that will guarantee a magical end to your day.

5 Breathtaking Spots to Watch the Sunset in Malaga

1. Gibralfaro Castle

One of the city’s top sights has also won plenty of hearts as the best place to watch the sunset in Malaga. Gibralfaro Castle is a truly special place: the site itself is steeped in history, but offers breathtaking views of the modern city with the Mediterranean at its feet. It’s beautiful at any time of day, but takes on a particularly romantic air as the sun slips below the horizon. If you’re in town with your special someone, we guarantee this view will take their breath away (as well as yours!).

2. Monte Victoria

Want to get off the beaten path? Monte Victoria, a mountain perched just behind the heart of Malaga’s modern city center, offers some of the best views from the top in town. It’s a bit of a trek to get to, and not very well connected by public transportation. However, if you’re in the mood for a relaxing evening hike (it’s only about a 10 minute walk from Plaza de la Merced), the views of the sunset in Malaga from this point are absolutely unbeatable. If you have a car, getting to the top of Monte Victoria (also known as Monte de las Tres Letras) is even easier.

3. Muelle Uno

Prefer to enjoy the sunset in Malaga from ground level? Head straight to Muelle Uno, the city’s revitalized, modern port area, where you can enjoy a different sunset every day. The view changes from day to day depending on what ships are in the harbor, but the view out over the water is always peaceful and calming. Grab an ice cream or a drink from one of the shops or bars nearby and settle in for a sunset experience straight out of a movie.

4. Baños del Carmen/El Balneario

If you want to watch the sunset in Malaga from the beach itself, you can’t get much better than Playa Baños del Carmen. It’s a bit out of the way of the city center, but very easy to reach by bus (and a great place to spend a day, so if you’re there already, be sure to stick around for the sunset!). Enjoy unspoiled views over the Mediterranean as the waves lap up onto the shore, or head to the nearby El Balneario restaurant (Calle Bolivia, 26), a classy yet inviting place where you can enjoy a drink or meal as the sun goes down.

A more off-the-beaten-path place to enjoy the sunset in Malaga is El Balneario, located on the beautiful Baños del Carmen beach.

The city’s historical botanical gardens are a tranquil, peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. They’re worth a visit at any time of day, but they make an especially lovely place to enjoy the sunset in Malaga. The gardens are open for special evening hours on select days during July and August, so if you’re visiting in the summer, experiencing the magic has never been easier! Head to the beautiful gazebo for unrivaled views over the entire city as the sun goes down.
