7 Spectacular Places to Watch the Sunset in Granada You Need to See

As evening falls over Granada, the city comes more alive than ever. The beautiful sunset hues highlighting the city’s stunning buildings and monuments makes for a magical feeling. The sunset in Granada is one of the best in Europe, thanks to its many beautiful miradores and unique hidden corners. Here are just a few of the most unforgettable places to catch the sunset in Granada so your evening will be off to a magical start.

Find some of the best views of Granada at the many miradores in the Albayzín. We especially love this view of the Alhambra at sunset!

Where to Watch the Sunset in Granada

1. Torre de la Vela at the Alhambra

As Spain’s most popular tourist attraction, it’s no surprise that the Alhambra tops this list of the best places to see the sunset in Granada. You can’t go wrong with any of the jawdroppingly beautiful views from the structure. However, for the absolute best views at sunset, head to the Alcazaba fortress and climb the narrow stairs to the old watchtower (Torre de la Vela). From here, you’ll catch breathtaking panoramic views of the picturesque Albayzín district as well as the city center, both of which look positively spectacular at sunset.

2. Huerto de Juan Ranas

Popular Mirador de San Nicolás offers great views of the Alhambra, but it’s become the city’s worst-kept secret. Skip the popular plaza and head to Huerto de Juan Ranas directly below it. The terrace at this charismatic little restaurant offers the exact same views as the famous plaza, but with the added bonus of less tourists and the opportunity to sip a drink as you watch the sunset in Granada.

3. Sacromonte

For centuries, this historic barrio has been home to the Roma people, who traditionally live in unique cave houses built directly into the hills. If you’re already headed this way for a flamenco show, take advantage of the opportunity to watch the sunset in Granada. The place to be is the hilltop right above the Sacromonte Caves Museum (which is worth a visit itself). The stunning 360-degree views right before a jawdropping flamenco performance make for a magical evening!

4. Mirador de San Cristóbal

This less-popular yet equally impressive viewpoint is much quieter than Mirador de San Nicolás, and you won’t be fighting off nearly as many crowds. The Mirador de San Cristóbal, located just west of the Albayzín, offers a different, more unique view of the sunset in Granada. It’s a bit of a hike, but well worth the effort. Get off the beaten path and watch the city light up at night.

5. Dehesa del Generalife

This little corner of natural beauty makes for a great escape from the bustling city. Head to Dehesa del Generalife earlier to take a relaxing hike through the hilly landscapes. As evening blankets the city, you’ll catch the best views from Aljibe de la Lluvia, an ancient structure left over from Granada’s Moorish days. This spot is great for a sunset picnic as you enjoy breathtaking views of the Alhambra and the mountains beyond.

6. Ermita de San Miguel Alto

Just a 15 minute walk from the Albayzín yet seemingly a world away lies the Ermita de San Miguel Alto. This quaint little hermitage is perched on a quiet hillside overlooking the city. The quiet atmosphere and beautiful views make it a great spot for couples to enjoy a romantic moment together.

7. Carmen de los Martires

Surprisingly, some of the best views of the sunset in Granada come from ground level. Carmen de los Martires is proof that you don’t need to hike up to a mirador to catch amazing views. This peaceful little home within the Alhambra offers a quiet courtyard and sweeping views of the valley below. This is a great place to catch the sunset in Granada for a calm, relaxing end to your day.
