Malaga is a city that is lucky enough to enjoy almost 300 days of sun a year. That's considerably more than other parts of Spain. The region is also protected by the mountains to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south, so it has a little microclimate that makes it very easy for locals to enjoy socializing outdoors. This includes tapas bars with outdoor seating, lots of chiringuitos (restaurants along the beach that often serve fried fish and espetos), and a great selection of rooftop bars as well.
The best rooftop bars in Malaga are found at hotels in the city center. And since Malaga is a relatively small city, you can get a good view from any of them. Some are better for seeing the port, and others are great if you want a view of the historic center or the Alcazaba. Here are five of the best rooftop terraces in Malaga that are sure to please anyone.
The Best Rooftop Terraces in Malaga
1. Alcazaba Premium Hostel
The rooftop bar at the Alcazaba Premium Hostel is one of the newer rooftop terraces in Malaga, and it has a beautiful view of the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle. In addition to the great views, it's also good to note that the drinks are generous and the DJ spins great tunes as well.
If you head there in the late afternoon, you'll see a mix of ages and people, from older businessmen closing a deal to tourists enjoying the scenery. At night, look out for malagueños who are discovering the beautiful views by night. This is easily one of the best rooftop bars in the historic center.
Address: Calle Alcazabilla, 12
2. Hotel Molina Lario
Located right in the center of town, Hotel Molina Lario is a great place to get views of the historic center of Malaga. While the rooftop can get warm during the day, as evening settles in, this is a great place to come get a drink and cool off with a beautiful view of the port and the cathedral.
Address: Calle Molina Lario, 20
3. Hotel Room Mate Larios
Located on Calle Marques de Larios, the most famous street in Malaga, Hotel Room Mate offers beautiful cityscapes. It's a great way to get above it all and people-watch with a bird's eye view. It is only open during the warmer months, so make sure to keep that in mind before you go.
Address: Calle Marqués de Larios, 2
4. AC Malaga
This is easily one of the best rooftop terraces in Malaga. Located next to the cathedral, the AC Malaga's rooftop bar is higher up with great views of the port area. In the summer it's a wonderful place to enjoy the breeze coming in off the water, and in the winter they provide blankets and space heaters so you can cuddle up and have a nice relaxing drink in the evening.
Address: Cortina del Muelle, 1
5. Salles Hotel Malaga Centro
If you're looking for a slightly calmer rooftop bar in Malaga, the Salles Hotel Malaga Centro has a smaller terrace where you can find views of the city center. The cathedral is a bit farther off in the distance and you're isolated from the sea breeze, but nevertheless, it's always nice to get up above it all and enjoy your drink peacefully.
Address: Calle Mármoles, 6
